Internet TV
Miro - formerly known as Democracy Player
"Miro is a free application that turns your computer into an internet TV video player. You can download it here for Windows, Mac, or Linux. This release is still a beta version, which means that there are some bugs, but we're moving quickly to fix them and will be releasing bug fixes on a regular basis."
Video Editors
- Jahshaka - Powering the New Hollywood - "JAHSHAKA is the worlds first OpenSource Realtime Editing and Effects System. Jahshaka takes advantage of the power of OpenGL and OpenML to give its users exceptional levels of performance. We currently support Linux, OsX, Irix and Windows, and Solaris is on the way! Jahshaka is licenced to the public under the GNU GPL agreement."
- Kino - Digital Video Editor and tools to transfer/capture video from Digital Video Cameras. Only available for Linux.
- Cinelerra - "Cinelerra does primarily 3 main things: capturing, compositing, and editing audio and video with sample level accuracy. It's a seamless integration of audio, video, and still photos rarely experienced on a web server."
- Cinelerra CV Community Version of Cinelerra - see the "About" page here for the differences between the original Herione Warrior version and the Community Version. The CV is more actively maintained and probably more functional overall.
- Blender - "Blender is the free open source 3D content creation suite, available for all major operating systems under the GNU General Public License." A free alternative to 3D Studio Max or Maya.
- VirtualDub - "VirtualDub is a video capture/processing utility for 32-bit Windows platforms (95/98/ME/NT4/2000/XP), licensed under the GNU General Public License (GPL). It lacks the editing power of a general-purpose editor such as Adobe Premiere, but is streamlined for fast linear operations over video. It has batch-processing capabilities for processing large numbers of files and can be extended with third-party video filters. VirtualDub is mainly geared toward processing AVI files, although it can read (not write) MPEG-1 and also handle sets of BMP images."
- Linux Video Production: the State of the Art 2005-11-29
- Video Penguins 2003-01-01
- Digital Tipping Point - "The Digital Tipping Point film project is an open source film project about the big changes that open source software will bring to our world. Like the printing press before it, open source software will empower average people to create an immense wave of new literature, art, and science."
